AFTER SEVEN YEARS
GAOL-FOR FALSE PRETENCE
For,an offence committed in New 1 Plymouth in 1927; Charles Mozart Spinley, aged 51, a cook, was sentenced to three months', imprisonment by Mr., E. Page, S.M., in the 'Magistrate's 1 Court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to the> charge of obtaining £8 10s by a false pretence with a cheque from Hermine A. Kidson at New Plymouth. In November last Spinley was arrested at Wairoa for false pretences, said Detective-Sergeant L. Revels and, he was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment,.which he was at present serving. After his;arrest!it was thought 1 that he was identical with a man named Wilson- who was wanted for false pretences in ' New Plymouth, and the accused had admitted to Detective F. N: .Robinson -that he -was: that man. In July, 1927, he was staying at a boarding-house conducted by Mrs. Kidson in New, Plymouth, said the detective-sergeant. He ran up an account for 30s 'and paid for it with a valueless cheque for £10 receiving £8 10s change. It was a particularly mean offence be'eause the woman was in very poor, circumstances at the time. Spinley was a bad false pretences offender, having faced almost thirty charges. The sentence of three months' imprisonment is to be served at the expiration of the present sentence.
