.CENSUS NEXT YEAR
GOVERNMENT DECISION
An announcement that. a Census would be taken in 1936 was made by the . Postmaster-General and Minister in Charge of the Census and Statistics Office (the Hon. A. Hamilton) today. Mr. Hamilton said that the last Census was taken in 1926. There had been one due in .1931, but owing to the financial conditions prevailing and the icost involved,. legislation had been [passed postponing the Census until 1936. The matter had recently been considered by Cabinet, and it had been 'decided to take a Census next year. The Minister stated that there were many formalities to be carried out by the Government Statistician and his Department before a date could be fixed for the taking of a Census, and it would be some considerable time before these could be completed.
