DEATH TOLL OF CHILDREN
URGENT RELIEF! MEASURES
(Received February 4, 2 p.m.) •". COLOMBO, February 3.; " In January there were 7038 deaths from malaria in . the North-western Province of Ceylon. The normal death" rate is 700. Eighty per cent, of'the deaths are of children. The Government is endeavouring to secure ,the services.' of. Lieutenant-Colon el--S'. P.James to direct an island-wide campaign against malaria. Colonel James j worked In Ceylon twenty-two years ago.
An. Indian medical relief party ii expected next week. The epidemic'is definitely on the decline,' but food shortage is. feared. Government reiiei measures are in full swing.
