CAR CONVERTED
"If he had, only listened to reason .Instead of jumping to conclusions I wouldn't, be here," said John McQueen Bolton, aged 31, a seaman, in the Magistrate's' .Court today in explanation of an argument' between himself and J. F. McKenna on Saturday night concerning'the removal of McKenna's car by Boltoil. - Bolton was charged with converting i the ' car, valued at £250, to his own use, and he was 'sentenced by Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., to one month's imprisonment.
Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach said that at 5.25 p.m. on Saturday Mr. McKenna found "that his car, which he had left outside' his premises in Molesworth Street, was some distance down the road. He found Hie accused, in it cndeavouring_;t6j start it.. The accused 'was under the influence 'of liquor 5, and -he told a constable that he had been requested ,by someone to shift the car.
Bolton explained that he had seen a man having trouble with the car. The man asked him to shove the car, and finally ■at 'the man's request he released the brake and let the car run a little way down the hill. When the ■owner came along he would not listen to reason,, and that was why he (the accused) was brought to Court.
Evidence.was?given by McKenna. He said "that Bolton had his foot on the self-starter of*"""the car, trying to start the engine.
