AMICABLE SETTLEMENT

Following a week's preliminary con* versations the Chahar-Jehol border dispute has been settled at a conference between Chinese and Japanese military officers. According to the Chinese official version a verbal agreement was reached whereby tl-ie Japanese undertook to withdraw theic troops from the disputed area, while the Chinese pledged themselves to re« main west of the Great Wall.
