The Prime Minister (the Bt. Hon. G. W. Forbes), returned to Wellington today after a tour of inspection of the Maori land development schemes in the Botorua and Taupo districts.

A Hawke 's Bay pioneer, Mr. Kenneth Mackenzie, of "Kintail," Putorino, passed away suddenly at his residence on Saturday, states the " Hawke's Bay Tribune." Mr. K. Mackenzie was ■ a native of Loch Broom, Bosshire/ Scotland, and was the seventh son of Mr. James Mackenzie, of Kildonan, one of the largest sheeprun owners in the Western Highlands. Arriving in Neir Zealand at the ago of 22, Mr. Mackenzie was for some years associated •witk Mr. R. Johnstone, of Motuotaraia Station, later taking over the management of the well-known Mangamaire E*tate. Taking up farming on his own account, he purchased the sheeprun of Scaforth, in the Weber district, "being one of the early pioneers of that district, where he was a' prime mover' in the Caledonian Sports Club. ■ Garbed in -the kilt, his tall, stalwart figure in those days was a familiar sight at all the leading Hawke's Bay gatherings. He was a keen athlete, and noted far • and wide for his walking prowess. Some 25 years ago he purchased . The chairman of the Carterton School Committee has received word from jth» Wellington Education Board that Mr. H. Fawcctt, of the Kaikorai School, Dunedin, has been appointed headmaster of the Carterton District Higk School'in. succession to Mr. A. T. White, who retired at the end of last year on. superannuation. Mr. Fawcett will not tako iip his duties at Carterton - until March 1, and in the meantime Mr. J, S. Donald will be acting headmaster.
