REVOLVERS FOR WOMEN
Determined to. transform the 155 policewomon of Now York into real amazons in the war against criminals, the Commissioner, Mr. Lewis Valentine, has issued orders that they must carry heavy calibre revolvers. Further, they are oxpectod to practise whooting once every three weeks. T.hoir male colleagues, who hitherto have been roquirqd to practise only three times a year, will also have to observe this rulo. At present a mere handful of women police carry a small automatic that can be slipped into a pocket. Most of them seem to resent the Commissioner's latest instructions, pointing out that the heavy sorvice weapon will call for a very largo handbag. They also complain that their special duties do not bring them into contact with .quickshooting desperadoes, and that cvon if they did, a policowoman would not have much elianco in a, revolver battle with an expert gunman.
