VISITORS ENTERTAINED
The Town Hall presented a very gay sceiio on Saturday night when tho combined Italian societies of Wellington, under the auspices of the - Garibaldi Club, gave a ball for the potty officers and men of the visiting Italian cruiser, Armando Diaz.
The hall was .decorated with bright coloured lights, and. flags draped the edge of tho. balcony. There was a very large attendance and the visitors appeared thoroughly to enjoy themselves.
The president of the .Garibaldi Club, Mr. Paino, .made a shoit speech of welcome- to the guests of honour. Tlioy brought, lie said, a breath of homeland to' tho Italians in Wellington, and it was,a very,great pleasure to welcome them. ' He expressed the hope that their stay in "Wellington "would be a very, happy one and that the hospitality shown to.them would give some idea of the very, warm feeling that existed for them. ■ , ,• Tho officer in charge,- Lieutenant Pellecehia, thanked the president for his words and said that it was a great pleasure to have travelled 14,000 miles and. to receive such a wonderful, welcome from their countrymen so far from home. A very friendly spirit prevailed throughout tlio e-vening 'and the music provided by an excellent orchestra helped to make the function a-particu-
larly pleasant one
