NEW MARKETS NEEDED

BOARDS CRITICISED

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

STRATFORD, November 17.

Dealing with legislation parsed last Session controlling primary industries, "Point Blank," the official organ of the Now Zealand Farmers' Union, says celitorially. that, marketing', has' been ont of tho Dominion's weakest spots. Tho Meat Board, it alleges, makes no determined effort■ to break in. new markets elsewhere than Britain. The Dairy Board is content to go on. piling increasing production into England in face 'of annually increasing' figures which must have shown it that the ultimate result Vill bo disaster. The .Fruit Board, when now markets were opened for it in America, did not bother to tako advantage of them because at the moment it could get about the samo price in.London without^ the worry of establishing new connections. "It is time- somebody took hold of New Zealand's products and tackled the job of disposing of them on inoro business ■ lines. Tho country which has something to sell must be prepared to offer something in exchange , It is no longer a job for individual boards to dabble in. Tho Government has recognised this and the co-ordination work of various producers' organisations is under the Minister, so we can offer not one but all tho products as an inducement to trade. If such an arrangement necessitates a treaty or tariff adjustments tho Government through its representative will be in touch with the position and able to act. Tho responsibility is tho Government's in the last analysis, and in meeting the , domands of tho primary industries tho ' Government has done tho wisest : thing." J
