MRS. AMELIA PRENDEVILLE

The death at Wellington on Friday of Mrs. Amelia Prondeville, relict of tho late:Mr.;J.- S.- Erendeville, removes one of the best • known and oldest pioneers of Wellington, and a very pro 1 mincnt resident of Karori.

The late Mrs. Prendevillc, who was in her 79th year, was a daughter of ' Major P. Monaghan, and was born in Karori in 185 G. . Sho lived all her life at Makara and Karori, and was among the early pupils.' at the Karori and Makara Schools. ■ She was also an early pupil of St. • Mary's Convent, '• Hill Street. She married Mr. J. S. Prendeville,'school'master, Makara, who predeceased her in 1888. Tho late Mrs. Prendeville ia survived by four sons and a daughter: Messrs. Jas. Prendevillo, of the' Crown Law-Office;. J. H. Prendeville, engineer, Chatham Islands; M. W. Prcndoville, farmer,- Makara; E. C. Proiidevillc, clerk, Prisons Department; and Mrs. .Bates, Carterton. There arc nineteen grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. The funeral .took ■ place today at tho Karori Cemetery. Bequiem Mass was celebrated at the. Basilica, Hill Street, by the Key. Father Smyth, and the service'tit the graveside was conducted by tho Bey. Father Cahill, assisted by the Boy. Fatherv Cleary.- Those present included representatives of Government Departments, and the New Zealand and Wellington Bugby,Unions, of which latter body Mr. Jas. Prendevillo is chairman of the management committee. There were also present many old residents of Karori and Makard1,. including Messrs. T. Campbell, W. Longhurst, A. Siovers, J. Trotter, A. Hawkins, S. Catley, and-B/Lynch. (Paraparaumu).

The late Mrs. Prendcville was a prominent member of the Early Settlers' Association, .and regularly attended tho reunion of members. ■ Sho formerly tooK a keen interest in local affairs, and was an ex-representative for Levin to the Womon's Division of tho Farmers' Union. ' - '
