LOCAL" OBSERVANCE
BIG PARADE AT BASIN
Parades of returned soldiers will be the principal featuro of the Armistice Day observance in. Wellington tomorrow. Tho Tirst Battalion of tho "Wellington, Regiment is to attend Divino scrvico at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral in tho morning. The battalion is to parado in "Wakefield 'Street, on the south side of tho Town Hall, at 9.45,' and will march through tho main streets of the city to the Pro-Cathedral. For all ; returned soldiers thero will be another servico in tho morning, in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street.. Those who wish to attond (and it is hoped by the R.S.A. that there will be a splendid response) are to parado at To Aro Post Office, Ghuznee Street, at 10,30 a.m. This will be the citizens' Armistico' service, and the Mayor and councillors, with members of Parliament and the R.S.A. executive, will.also be present.
1 • PARADE AT THE BASIN. ' At 2 p.m. returned soldiers from all •parts of the city will parade in the Basin Beserve, near St. Mark's Church, to take part in an open-air service. Canon Percival James will give the address and the Rev, W. Bramwell Scott will conduct the service, which will bo broadcast. Misa Gladys Watkins will play selections on the Carillon before and^after the service. Tho Port Nicholson, and Ist Wellington Regiment Bands will be present, and the singing will bo led by the Eeturned Soldiers' Choir. After the sorvice the .parade, under Colonel A. r Cowles, president of the Wellington E.S.A., ■will-march past the Carillon, down Taraifaki Street, along Vivian Street, Cuba Street, Manners Street, Willis Street,' Lambton Quay, and' Bunny Street, and will dismiss at Whitmore Street. A wreath of remembrahco will be laid upon the War Memorial. The Soiith African War veterans Will tak6 pert. * They will parade at the Basin Reserve at. 1.45 p.m. In the evening they are to attend a church parade it St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, and for this purpose they'will assemble at Lambton Station at 6.30 p.m. Medals and dccotationS are to be worn.
If the weather is bad tomorrow afternoon the service will ,be transferred from the Basin to St.>Jame3 Theatre, and'will commence at' 2.30 p.m. The chango will bo notified 'by the flying of four flags1 from Mount "Victoria, and on the Town Hall at 1.30 p.m.
The programme to be played in the afternoon by .Miss Gladys Watkins on the Carillon is as follows: —
2.15 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. (before the Armistice Day service): "Here's ft Health Unto His Majesty," "Homo Sweet Home," "The Bells of St. Mary's." During the service the Sqmme New Zealand Division bell will be sounded eight times, , 3 p.m. (at close of service): "Land of Hop© and Glory,'* "Hoea Ba," Maori canoe song;' "Onward Christian .Soldiers," "New Zealand, My Homeland." IN THE EVENING. ' Under the anspices of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas, a church parade is called'for the evening at St. Thomas's and St. Anno's Churches. All members of > the brigade and cadets are to meet in St. Thomas's Hall, Eiddiford Street, at 6.30 p.m. Members of the Order of St. John, members .of St. John Ambulance Association, and the committee and 'nurses of the District Nursing Guild aro cordially invited. At 8.15 p.m. itho Eeturned-Soldiers' Choir, "Tin Hat Concert Party, and, the Port Nicholson Band will render a special Armistice- Day • programmo in St. James...Theatre.
At the service at the Jewish Synagogue this morning special reference was made to Armistice Day by Eabbi Solomon Katz and tho Eev. Solomon
