The reply of the Japanese Government to the rccont representations at Tokio of the United Kingdom Government legaTding certain aspects of the new petroleum* law s in Japan has been foiwardod to the Foreign Office where it is being carefully studied. _ British oil* companies, whose laige inteiests in Japanese trade are liable to be adversely affected by the new law, have been ' informed of tho position. Close contact hns'thioughout been maintained with the' United.States and the Nethei lands Governments, which on behalf of their nationals, whoso extensive intorests are similarly .menaced, have also made representations at Tokio.
