ON THE GRAND CANAL
MOTOR-BOAT TRAFFIC
VENICE, October 26,
The Architectural Committee recommends that the 800 motor-boats which
are in use on the Grand Canal daily be excluded.
It says that the wash is destroying the foundations of homes and private palaces. Twenty years of motor traffic has done more harm than centuries of tides. Five public buildings lining the canal are cither under repair or have been reconditioned at great cost. It is estimated that the reconditioning of private palaces cost about double their market value.
