MARANUI

There was a Rood attendance at the annual meeting of tho Maranui Club, nnd from the interest displayed by the members it appears evident that the coining season is going to be full of activity. The number of successes gained last season was not as numerous as on several former occasions, but that fact does not deter the membership from making a bid for honours this year, and with this incentive, good progress is bound to be made. A sound body of officials, many of whom have rendered fine service to the club, will see that members have every opportunity to make themselves proficient in the sport, and with good material to work upon the results should be effective. Surf life-saving is, of course, the main objective of the club, but nevertheless competitive swimming is by no means neglected, and the numerous events on the season's programme are sure to be well up to the standard of previous years.

It is "reported from New York that Jack Dempsey is seeking to manage, with complete control, Jack Peterson, the British Empire champion, with a view to a world-title fight. Dempsey (it is stated) has an ambition to present to the world a successful British contender for the title now in the possession of Max Baer, who very largely owes his position to Dempsey's training.
