SHIPBREAKINC
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Ijf tonight's issue of your paper there is a report of a discussion at the IlafboiSV Board's meeting regarding shipbreaking. As manager of tho company ■\>!iich has recently completed the breaking up of the Delpussund at Evans bay, and the Ganhyinedo at Nelson. I would like to state that the statement made by a member of the board concerning the Gannymede was not quite correct. The reason for towing this vessel to Nelson to break was that the good weather, together with the great difference in the tides, would, in the opinion of my company, enable us to do a quicker and cheaper job. Also tho metal from this ship formed the nucleus of a consignment which we were able to gather in Nelson.
The Wellington Harbour Board had never been approached by us regarding Ihe beaching of this vessel. Regarding sliipbveaking in "Wellington, we have always received the greatest courtesy from the staff of the board, as well as some very helpful advice. —I am, etc., C. J. HAY.
