PETONE CLUB

At Trentham on Saturday the Petone Club fired a further competition for the championships, Flaws Cup, first handicap serieß, and longfield handicap series, the range being 600 yards. There was a strong attendance, and with ideal shooting conditions—fairly steady light southerly breeze and good .light—the scoring was of a high standard for this difficult distance. The club standard for the 600 yds range is 00 (45 each range), and the brilliant shooting by the "scratch" members was a pleasing feature, due in some measure on this occasion to. the use of ammunition of recent manufacture. ' The best range score was recorded by R. H. Nicholl with 49 out of the possible 50 (his eighth shot being an "inner"), J. C. Carter being next with 48 (finishing with two "inners"), R. H. Nicholl 47 tn his second shoot, O. Pedersen ,47, R. C. Barkle, A. Ballingcr, T. Warburton, E. Ballinger, and W. H. Ballinger 46 each, and five 45's. The outstanding aggregate for the day off the gun was secured by R. H. Nicholl with the total, of 90, and he was heartily congratulated !by his fellow-members on returning such a brilliant score. Mr. Arthur Ballinger, the veteran champion, returned the next best aggregate^ of 91, and he also was congratulated on his meritorious performance. The other leading aggregates were secured by the following: T. Warburton 91, R. C. Barkle 91, E.. Ballinger 91, J. C. Carter 89, W. H. Ballinger 88, O. Pedersen 87. Next Saturday the shooting will continue for the same competitions, the range being 800 yards. The following arc the scores:— 000 yds. Hep. TI. R. H. Nicholl 49 47 0 96 A. Ballinger 45 40 0 91 T.
