SCHOOLBOY ATHLETES

The doings of the Now Zealand and Canadian boys who left Wellington this week to compete in Melbourne on November 9 will be followed with interest. One among the Canadian boys who claimed special attention was tho negro Sammy Bichardson, aged 15, who won tho long jump and was second to J. P. Metcalfo (Australia) in the hop, step, and jump at the recent Empire Games. Not only can he jump, but ho can also run, as ho showed during a work-out at Wellington Collego. Writing of Eichardson at tho Empire Games tho special correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian" saidof him: ''In ordinary clothes ho-is quite unnoticeable, but he passes the oldest and most searching test—ho 'strips big'—and when ho starts to run he is the incarnation of natural vigour, untaught and untrammelled."
