The new University Library foij Cambridge, containing moro than.' 1,500,000 volumes arranged on shelves totalling forty miles in length, will ba opened by tho King on Monday.
One of, the greatest treasures in thoi library is a 42-leaf Bible printed 'at Mainz in 1436, which is insured foi; £50,000.
Tlic library, which was designed bvj Sir Gilbert Scott, has been "built at ai cost of £300,000. The opening cere« mony will lake place in tho reading* room, which is IT)4 feet long.
