SALARIES INCREASED
BY 5 PER CENT,
EDUCATION BOARD'S STAFF
The question of a 5 per cent, increase in the staff salaries of the Wellington Education Board came up for consideration at today's meeting, when the chairman, Mr. W. V. Dyer, moved that the resolution of the board passed in June last, deferring for six months the question of restoring 5 per cent, of the cuts made in official staff salaries, including tho cleaner, bo rescinded, and that a 5 per cent, increase in all present salaries bo made as from April 1, 1934.
Mr. Dyer remarked that the Finance Act provided for the increase, and he rejoiced that tliey -were in a position to make the restoration.
Colonel T. W. McDonald said that it was obvious that the board had lost control of its own staff: they wero being dictated to as to what salaries should bo paid. The chairman said that since he had given notice of his motion the position had altered somewhat in view of the communication received from the Government. By restoring the cut they were simply carrying out the Department's instructions.
