ELLERSLIE MEETING
FINAL DAY RESULTS
LIMBOHM A GOOD WIN
(Special from "Early Bird.")
AUCKLAND, October 10,
There was a fair attendance lor the concluding day of the Auckland Kaeing Club's .Meeting, and £18J7j 10s passed through the totalisator. against ;C 17,141 on the concluding day at last year's meeting, mi increase of £11)34 10s. The total for the meeting was £44,13J, against £33,553 last your, an increase of JCIO,O4X. Ridden with supreme confidence, Gipsy Molh, an oddrf-oii favourite, defeated the second choice, Kins; Brierly, in the Normanby Handicap. The favourite was clear crossing the top and into the straight from King Brierly, Killadar, Canopy, and Musquil. Over the last furlong King Brieily ranged alongside Gipsy Molh, but the latter was doing it easily and he won very easily. Kurapae was three lengths away, with Canopy, First Lap, Killadar, Courthaven, Miisquil, and King Tut next. The first and second horses outclassed the field. Koyal Lineage won the Munukau Hurdles most decisively. He ran up to the leader Thcspis at the seven furlongs, and ran past him at the half-mile to go on and win unchallenged. Emancipation, always handy, finished strongly and relegated Tkespis into third place, with Mia Stella, Free Air, Calarifi, and Wee Pat next. The last-named tailed off badly and had a lot of ground to make tip in the final quarter. Koyal Lineage won like a good horse. GOOD WIN BY REREATU. ltcreatu repeated In 3 first day's effort to win the Epsom Handicap convincingly from the unlucky Tradesman, who had a wretched run. Greek Gold showed plenty of dash to get to the front early, and he was .iust clear at the home turn from Solomon, Kcreatu, Sinking Fund, l?in Money, Star Artist, Tradesman, and King Mestor. Some of these were running very wide. Kereatu got to the front at the half distance, to go on and win handsomely from Tradesman, who finished fast, wide out, to beat Pin Money for second place, with Gay Scton next and Greek Gold, British Columbia, Solomon, Lady Kyra, and King Mestor. The winner is putting up an enviable record for consistency, and he did well to score in such fashion with a solid weight. Tradesman started from the inside, but was a bit sore and soon drifted back to tenth at the half-mile, so his final effort speaks for itself. Pin Money showed considerable improvement, but Burnish revealed no dash, and finished last. Lady Kyra is coming back to form and sh6uM be ii possibility at Waverley. TWO GOOD DIVIDENDS. There was a double-barrelled surprise- in the King Edward Memorial Handicap, Limbohm beating Royal Artist, both being at long odds. Koyal Artist led out of the straight and into the back stretch, where Limbohm was last. Passing the half-mile Koyal Artist was making play from Spiral, Master Norval, Knight' of Australia, Mungatoon (dropping back), and Lord Val. At the rear were Kiltowyn, Ked Manfred, and Horowhenua, with Limbohm still last but commencing a run that took him right round tho field. Koyal Artist led into the home stretch from Spiral, Master Norval, Baroscope, Lord Val, Kiltowyn, Limbohm, and Ked Manfred. At the half-distance Koyal Artist was being challenged by Limbohm, while Ked Manfred and Kiltowyn. were handy, ahead of Lord Val. It was a line linish, with Limbohm doing it best, a neck in front of Koyal Artist, and Ked Manfred a length away, just in front of Lord Val. Next to arrive were Spiral, Carfex, Korokio, Horowhenua, and Kiltowyn. The success of Limbohm was well achieved and was a vast improvement on his first day's display. Koyal Artist produced hi.s best form and it now looks as if he will return to the dash he displayed when lie won the Wellington Cup two seasons back. Ked Manfred confirmed the good impression ho made the first day, while Lord Val went one of his best races. The run of the race was all against Carfcx, Korokio, and Kiltowyn. Tho winner paid a solid double-figure dividend and the second horse over a quarter of a century. A FIGHTING FINISH. The Ouehunga Steeplechase supplied an exciting finish. Absent tried to win all the way but down the hill the last time he was joined by Capella Abbey, and nt, the last fence Ruby Meteor was with, them, the trio fighting out a desperate finish. Kuby Meteor;finished better than Capella Abbey and Absent,: while Allegretto was well back. THE FINAL EVENTS, Symcony, at a near Gloaming price, hada .simple task in the Musket Stakes, which she won from end to end, four lengths ahead of Gay Sheik, while Velocipede was running on in third place, well back, with Fleetwind again fourth. The ease with which Symcony won emphasises the value of Galilee's performance. • Grand >Sport -wound up favourite tor the Hobson Handicap and he won narrowly hut convincingly' from tho mildly-fancied Crooning. Lady Diana and Crooning mad« play to tho turn, with Grand Sport en ] their heels and Scotland, Nun Nicer, Ballymoney, Memnon, and Kelly following in strung-out order. Lady Diana was the first to weaken and Grand Sport wore down Crooning in. handsome fashion. •■ Ballymoney was fourth and Scotland, Nun Nicer, Kelly, Memnon, Sporting Song, and Keith Lv were next to arrive. Grand Sport was conceding 341b to the second horse, so it was a good effort. Kelly drew a bad marble and he was soon in trouble, being much closer at the finish than at any other part of the contest. Sporting Blood scored very narrowly over Prolyxo in ' the Liverpool Handicap in a rattling good finish. Versant displaced Pomp in the lead at tho end of the second furlong and lie led for home from Hushing, Pomp, Prolyxo, Gay Marigold, and Sporting Blood. Right up to the half-dis-tance it looked like Versant winning but ho weakened, and first Prolyxo and then Sporting Blood cut him down, the three-year-old running up to Guineas form to win nicely, going away. Pomp was fourth and the others not far away. The winner is engaged in the New Zealand Cup.
