A MONTH'S WOKK

SMITH FAMILY RELIEF

At a meeting of the- directors of the Smith Family yesterday th©-secretary reported that during the past month clothing and assistance to the value of £.284 4s had been distributed.

The free milk issue to under-nourished children in tho city of Wellington ceased on September 30. Many letters of thanks and appreciation have bcen-ro-eeived by the Family. It is proposed to call a meeting next month of bodies and persons interested in the supply of milk to children, with a view to making it a national service. Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., presidont of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, is taking a very j active part in the matter, and it is [hoped that with his assistance a workable scheme will bo evolved.

The travelling library for men in relief camps is in full working order, and the books are much appreciated.

Arrangements are being made for Christmas cheer for distressed families, and contributions in cash or kind will be welcomed by the Family.

The clothes drive held last month produced a quantity of very usoful clothing, which is now being repaired and made ready for issue. The boot repairing depot and tailor's chop continue to function satisfactorily. Sinco the beginning- of the year 8157 pairs of boots and shoes have been repaired and 451 men's garments remade or repaired.

Requests for books and sports material continue to come in from relief camps. A request from a married men's camp at Koekvillc, near Collingwood, for a croquet sot was placed before a croquet club, with the result that a set was forthcoming-, and it will bo sent to tho camp at the earliest opportunity.
