NEW PLYMOUTH PAIR

DAVISTOCK AND COURTEGA

(Special from "Hurry On.")

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day

Considering that the AVaverley and Wellington Meetings are so close there was very little galloping on the New Plymouth tracks yesterday morning. All the fast work took place on the trial grass, which was on the slow side after heavy rain overnight.

Prince Colossus was restricted to pace work. He thrives on racing, his recent outings having improved him out of all knowledge, lie should be capable of making a bold showing in the Waverley Cup on Monday.

Leo Colossus has also come through his recent strenuous time in good style and moved freely in his pace work.

Ythan moved well ovev a circuit at a little better than three-quarter pace. He disappointed his connections badly at tho Hunt gathering and it remains to be seen whether the course of schooling that H. Dulieu has givuu him has worked an improvement. Headmistress. and Talmraugi were responsible for a pleasing performance over a mile. They ran the first half in 54sec, six furlongs in lruin Msec, and the full distance in lmin 47 2-ssee. Both finished full of running and drew attention to their chances at Waverley. Tahurangi has not raced since he won on the second day of the Hunt Meeting at New Plymouth on September 1, and Headmistress on the occasion of her last start was fourth behind Carfex at Foxton.

General Quex and Aussie Ka were allotted a working gallop over a mile, sprinting home from the three furlongs post in 39sec. General Quex finished in front. He lias been suffering from a cold and may not start at Waverley.

R.. Johnson's pair £or Trentham, Davistock and Courtega, were not asked -to gallop but were given serviceable tasks. Both have had plenty of racing and are in splendid order. They will leave on Friday morning. ■ Merry Way was let off with an easy task. This mare has progressed splendidly since resuming work and is not without prospects at Waverley,
