THE PRIMARY SCHOOLS
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
PROFICIENCY EXAMINATIONS
I Tho Education Board today confirmed the action of the executive in approving tho closing of schools for the summer holidays on Tuesday, December 18, instead of on December 19, as previously arranged. Teachers are to be informed that the results of the proficiency examinations aro not to be announced before Monday, December 10, and the competency and proficiency certificates must no; be issued before the last day of the current term, Tuesday, December 18. In the case of-those schools taking part in the children's celebration in Newtown Park in connection with the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, certificates may be distributed on the previous day. Mr. A. C. Blake reported that the Technical College had found employment for 170 boys and girls during the last year. This, ho said, was a very heartening sign. Mr. Blake gave notice of motion that tho Minister of Education bo requested, when making his computations, to take into consideration the average roll rather than the average attendance.
The board decided to. recommend to tho Education Department that a district high school should bo established at Shannon, the attendance figures, in its opinion, warranting such a step.
