TUBERCULIN TEST
MILK-SUPPLYING HERDS
ACTION AT MASTERTON
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, This Day
The desirability of applying the tuberculin test to all cows producing milk for city and town consumption und urging the Government to enact legislation making such testing compulsory is lv be stressed in :i remit to be forwarded by the Mastorton Borough Council to the Municipal Conference in Christchurch next year.
Referring to the remit at last night's meeting of the council the borough inspector, Mr. T. A. Russell, said that Masterton was very fortunate in that there was very little tubercular stockin the district. The position, however, was not the same in all parts of the Dominion. The danger o£ infection from milk from tubercular cows was great, particularly in the case of children. Eight herds had already been tested at the request of the farmers and two more would he done this week. He was hopeful that in tho near future all herds in the district would be tested. The testing was done by an officer of the Department of Agriculture and 110 charge was made. Infected stock was destroyed and the Department paid some compensation in those cases. Councillor W. Kemp congratulated the inspector on the good work ho was doing. It was up to the people of the town, he said, to assist tho inspector in his work, and they could do that by deciding not to take'milk from farmers whose herds had not. been tested.
