COMBINED COLLEGE CLUB
The annual, meeting ,of ~the Combined CoUe.-e Old Boys' Amateur Athletic Uub was held at Wellington Col ege recently and was presided over by Mr. h. bt. J. iTwas stated in the annual report that the officials of the club were well pleased with the performances. Ihe club although only in its second year, had been able to place teams in practically every branch of sport on the programme, with tho exception of tho distance events. Members performed very well at the Wellington provincial championships, gaining second place, and also at the Dewar Shield meeting taking third place. The club as yet had not a great membership, but new members were joining up each year Mr. Beere proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Armour, headmaster ot Wellingi ton College for allowing the club to tram on the college grounds. Mr. A. K. Hill stated that the club members had made great use of the grounds, where they were able to train for every branch of sport. The club has purchased a shot, hammer, discus, and two javelins. At the grounds there are also jumping pits and hurdles, so that all branches of sport are catered for. The usual Tuesday and Thursday training nights will be continued this season training commencing immediately. On the suggestion of Mr. P. G. Thompson, it was decided to make a donation to the Secondary Schools' Athletic Association to help send the team of school athletes to Melbourne, the amount to be left to the incoming committee. Mr. Thompson spoke of the difficulties that had arisen in sending the team to Melbourne. Father Clcary and Mr. D. Iv. Iliom replied, and it was agreed that the trip would do a great deal to help the young athletes of the Dominion. A vote of thanks was passed to the president, Mr. Beere, for his support and untiring interest in the club's activities. Mr. Beere, in replying, stated that although his athletic days were over, ho still maintained a very keen interest in athletics and was pleased to see tho club doing so well. He wished it another successful season. The treasurer, Father Cleary, stated in his report that the past year had shown a. small increase of cash on band to tha extent of £3, which must be looked upon as eminently successful for a young club still buying sporting requisites. Madden, B. McCarthy, T. C. A. Hislop, W. W. Cook, W. F. Drake, A. P. Harper, T. Brodie, L. Blundell, G. 0. Cooper, Dr. .1. S. Elliott, and Dr. M. Watt, and all principals of Wellington secondary schools and presidents of local old boys' associations; club captain, Mr. P. G. Thompson; assistant club captain, Mr. A. K. Hill; hori. secretary, Mr. A. C. McKenzie; hqn. treasurer. Father Cleary: committee, Messrs. 11. K. S. Orbell, K. Ilogan, D, K. Thorn.
