NELSON'S NEW BISHOP
CANON HILLIARD ARRIVES
A rousing farewell was given to the Rev. Canon W. G. Hilliard, Bishop-elect of Nelson, when he left Sydney on Inday for Wellington, about 400 boys who had been associated with him in church and school activities cheering him irom. a Sydney Harbour Trust launch which accompanied the Monowai to tho heads. Canon Hilliard arrived yesterday afternoon, and left last evening for Nelson, where he will be consecrated to the Bishopric on Sunday week by Archbishop Averill, Primate of New Zealand. Tho Archbishop of Sydney, tho Rt. Rev. Dr. Mowll, will attend the ceremony, and the various Anglican Bishops of Now Zealand will also be present. .. Born-in Sydney in 18S7, Canon HiHard was educated at the High School, Teachers' College, and Sydney University. From 1004 to 1911 he was in the scrViec of the New South Wales Education Department teaching in the State high schools. He was ordained in the latter year by the late Archbishop Wright, and after his curacy had charge of the important parishes of Ashfield and Marrickville between 1916 and 19?8 He was headmaster of Trinity Grammar School, Sydney, from 1913 to 1016, and again from 192S until recently In 1932 he was appointed canon'of St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydn°Canon Hilliard was Grand Chaplain of the United Grand Lodge in Now South Wales and a Past Deputy Grand Master in that State. Ho is keenly interested in tennis and cricket.
