Air. Noel Xclkoii, the president, extended a hearty welcome to members and visitors. Thu appearance of the green spoko for itself, and in that coniiuution Jilj commended the work of ihe green superintendent and the caretaker, Mr. W. H. Peters. As for the membership, it was more than satisfactory, as not only was the list full, but there was a waiting list, which he thought could be interpreted as a sign that better times were approaching. Hitherto the Thorndoii Club was chiefly noted for its hospitality and goodfellowship. While that had been maintained he was conscious of being quite in order in saying that it was now respected for its prowess on the green. It had won the Flyger Shield for the past two years. Mr. C. 11. Chapman, M.P., also added a few words of congratulation. Mrs. Nelson threw the first jack, and the first bowl was played by the ''grand old man" of the club, Mr. W. Jay, now in his ninety-first year. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies in the pavilion during the afternoon.
