It presented a magnificent sight, the water flowing over in a parabolic curve. Un I lie Miirface of tho dam, emulsified by Mio action of air vents in the face ul! the wall which functioned perfectly, air bubbles arid water sparkled in the brilliant sunshine.
The water was turned through the penstocks into an auxiliary domestic plant, and the turbines turned for the first time, marking the harnessing of tho mighty Waitaki and the conquering of the turbulent water of tho river to provide electric power for the in: clustrial and domestic needs of the South Island.
