UNSETTLED WEATHER
SOME RAIN PROBABLE
Special forecast for Wellington;— Continuance of strong northwesterly winds up to gale force. Weather mainly fair and mild, but squally, arid some light rain probable at times. The general forecast issued at noon today is for unsettled weather in districts with a westerly aspect, and in the high country, with intermittent rain. Somo heavy falls are likely on tho w<Sst coast of the South Island. In eastern districts it will bo mainly fair. Strong westerly winds, reaching gale force, arc expected in many places. Temperatures will be mild. New Zealand remains under tho influence of an intense and extensivo westerly depression, and strong north-west-erly to westerly winds to gales have continued 'to prevail. Itain, however, has been confined chiefly to districts with a westerly aspect, eastern, areas having experienced mainly fair though squally weather. In liWeaux Strait there have been hail showers in places, and Nugget Point reports that there was a thunderstorm last night. At Auckland yesterday a-strong westerly wind blew, but tho weather was fair, though cloudy and threatening at times. A trace of rain fell in the night. At 9 o'clock this morning a west-north-westerly breeze and fair weather ■were reported. A strong north-westerly gale blow throughout the day in Wellington. The weather, although at times cloudy and threatening, was for the most part fair, with mild temperatures. Tho maximum wind gust was at the rate of 66 miles per hour, at 1.55 p.m. Tho wind moderated somewhat in the night, but it was stiil fairly strong this morning. At 9 o'clock this morning the skies cleared. '
Christchnrch experienced a warm sunny day, but a strong squally northwesterly wind blew, which dropped in tho night. This morning it was fine, with a fresh west-north-westerly wind.
In Dimedin the weather was fine, with passing cloud and a moderate northwesterly wind. At 9 o'clock this morning it was fine and sunny, with a northwesterly breeze.
