CONTRACT BRIDGE
PROPOSED ASSOCIATION,
As advertised in this issue, a public meeting has been called for Tuesday, October 9, at 8 p.m., for the purpose of forming a 2vew Zealand Contract Bridge Association. The Wellington Gas Company has kindly made its rooms at Courtenay Place available for the meeting. For some time it has been felt by Wellington Contract players that a. New Zealand Association was needed to conduct regular tournaments the results of which ■would be officially recognised throughout the Dominion and elsewhere. It is not intended that the proposed association will interfere in any way with the functions of existing social and bridge clubs, for, it is expected, the functions of the organisation will be mainly to assist in maintaining the highest ideals of bridge in the Dominion and to unite contract players for monthly contests and annual championships. It is also hoped that in the near future interprovincial bridge matches can be arranged. The proposed association is not being sponsored by any overseas bridge association or league, it being considered that the game is sufficiently advanced in the Dominion for this country to have its own independent organisation.
