"Come on, Bob," said' Eva; as sh» sot out with her.basfcet of ■freslily-cut flowers. Bob was :her big "sheepdog. They had found him when he ":was * pup, sitting on the road one'cold winter's evening. Eva's father was dead and so she had to .sell flowers to help her mother, who was a; cripple.. As it was a lovely day she decided to hurry and sell her flowers'so she could gather gome wood for the fire, 6n her way home, Alasl . One hour passed and no one bought-any'of her violets. Two hours—three "hours— still no one stopped 'to look at the wistful little face looking so: sadly at her basket, where all the bunches lay; just as when she had started. Then, as luck would have it, a car full of sightseers stopped a short way from where she stood.

"What lovely violets," exclaimed

"Yes/ said another. "Elq- let us buy some." !All the other'passenger* saw too the lovely floorers so they purchased a buiicb, thus emptying her basket- ■',•".■ . •'-;/...--- "

■ ■ On her way home she found a lot of wood and as she.stooped to'pick the last bit up she saw'; something, sparkling in the" grass. 'When', she-' looked sho found it was a. real gold ring with a-cluster of emeralds'in'the centreIWith a light heart sho gaily; .wended her way home to her surprised mother.
