CRICKET SELECTOR

MR. K. H. TUCKER RETIRES

The reappointment of Mr. K. H. Tucker as the Wellington Cricket Association 's sole selector was made at the first meeting of the newly-elected management committee of the association. Mr. Tucker, however, has decided against continuing in the office, as he feds that he cannot afford to give the time necessary for fulfilling the duties completely in the coming season. To the selection of teams he has given much attention in the past, and it was after a spell from duty that he agreed to accept office last season.

In choosing his teams last season Mr. Tucker adopted the line of building up a team for the future. In some respects his selections were experimental, and he achieved results which were quite satisfactory when viewed with an eye to the future.. Mr. Tucker . did cricket the service last season of giving some very promising young players an amount of experience which should bo of great value to the players themselves and of benefit to the game in the seasons to come. In other years Mr. Tucker has rendered equally fine service, and his long record as a player is one of the most outstanding in New Zealand cricket history. His decision to retire from official duty in cricket will be widely regretted.
