The nominations received, for the Otaki Maori, Racing 'Club's Spring Meeting totalled 229, as compared with 252 last, year. The "first: day's entries number 111 and the '. second day's ■ 118, whereas last year there was.an increase from 113 to 139 on the second day.
The five-year-old Hunting Song mare Saxony, who is owned by her trainer W. Hastie,- of Feilding, has not done much racing yet, but after her narrow defeat at Foxtoh on Saturday it will be surprising if she does not : pick up a race before long.

Practically all the offspring of the Merry Moment mare Musical Moment have gone a promising race first time up, but none of them have yet been other than moderates in subsequent racing. It remains to be seen if her latest offspring, the Colossus gelding Maestro, who finished third in the two-year-old handicap at Foxton on Saturday, is an exception.
According to a Christchureh report Mnrohn ami Gas Mask, the full-brothers who were being trained by J. B. Pearson for Mr. G:. L. Rutherford, have been transferred to the charge of J. S. Shaw, who now has seven gallopers at Carbines old 'quarters. '
Jolly Beggar, the winner of the Second Il'milles at Oeraliline.on Saturday, is a six-year-old gelding by Xigger Minstrel from the Glenapp■marc Glcncross, a sister to the Auckland Cup winner.. Fiery , Cross. ,/Be is owned by his breeder; !ltMrV ■.■.]);<-< H, Roberts, and is trained by F.'.Christmas. He had never previously won' a race of any description, but ho was a quiet tip in some quarters for a surprise at the recent Grand National Meeting, though this possibility vanished when he failed to begin at his eingle start. His win on Saturday came at his second start over hurdles.
