SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

The cyclonic depression in the north is now centred near Cape Maria van Dlenien and since yesterday has Intensified considerably. Consequently, north-east to east wincls hare become1 strong In the northern half of the North Island, and since last night some heavy rains have fallen in that area, while rain has developed in most other districts. In the Cook Strait area a change to south-easterly winds has taken place, and temperatures have become colder.
