The average of wholesale prices in August showed a rise of 2.1 por : cent. as compared with July, and of 3.1 per cent, over August of last year* the respective index, numbers being '88.5, 56.7, and 85.8. - .

Food prices increased by 6J per cent, from the previous month and tho index for the cereal group is the highest recorded since August,. 1930. Industrial ■materials, however, continued the downward trend which began in March.
