FUNERAL SERVICES

NELSON, September 5,
The funeral of the late Pastor F. J. Sivyer, 8.A., who expired suddenly last. Sunday evening, took place at the Nelson Cemetery this morning. There were largo both at the church and gravoside services, -The service at tlio church was conducted by Mr. P. Bolton. Others Who took part were the Rev. James Hay and the Rev. W. Burloy (Nelson Ministers' Association), Mr. M. 801 l (Motueka), Mr. T. Bamford (Spring Grove), and Mr. AY. Hibburt (Dominion Youth Organiser for the Associated Churches of Christ). The cortege comprised 50 ears, and the roadway was lined by tho.children of thp Ilampden Streot school, where the late Mr. Sivyer carried out religious instruction under the Nelson system of Bible in schools. Among those present at ■ the funeral wore members of the Nelson Ministers' Association and the Mayor (Mr. W. J. Moffatt) and city councillors. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from all parts of the Dominion. The graveside soryice was conducted by Mr. Bolton. Tho bearers, all officers of the Nelson Church of Christ, ' were Messrs. M. E. Jackson, E. B. Marris, R. Stephens, L. H. Bull, A. B. Inglis, and A. E. Brough.
Lieutenant R. E. Washbourn, of H.M.S. Diomede, has been awarded the Ronald Megaw Memorial Prize for tho sub-lieutenant ODtaining the highest place in the examination for lieutenants. This officer has already wonthe Goodenough' Medal, for gunnery. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. H. E. A. Washbourn, of Nelson. The Very Rev. A. J. Cullen, S.M., B.Sc, rector of. St. -Patrick's College, Wellington, will spend next weekend in Nelson.
Mr. W. Hibburt, Dominion organiser for the young people's department of tho Churches of Christ, who has been in the Nelson district for the past month, returns to Wellington tonight. An open day held yesterday by the Nelson Ladies' Golf. Club attracted a large entry. In the morning a medal round was played with the following result: —Senior: Mrs. Topliss, 91, 17---74; Mrs. Cock, 90, 11 —79. Junior, Miss Owen, 109, 34—75; Mrs. Milner, , f's, 19 76. In tho afternoon a fourbnll bogey was played; Mrs. Cock and M.iaa Lucas and Mesdames Bean and Martin finished all square, the first-named pair winning on the tie.' Iv the final game for the McKay Cup Miss Littlejohn beat Mi^s Moore, 3 and 2.. Miss Lucas and Miss Turtori, of the Nelson club, are to take part in the New Zealand ladies' championship tournament at Auckland. The fifth and final round of the Encounter Shield competition of the Nelson Golf Club has been completed. The scores ' returned were:—Low, 93, 21 — 72- Goodman, 86, 14—72; Vercoe, 82, 7—75- R. Griffin, 85, 10—75; Copte, 86, g_77; : Cock, 90, 7—83. The result of tho compe'tion is:—R. Griffin 297, Vcrcoo 300, Cock 302, Coote*3o3.
