POST OFFICE FACILITIES
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —On a recent night after finishing a stretch of eight hours' sewing I had occasion to post an important letter to Christchurch. Te Aro Post Office was my natural objective, but as I do not leave work until 5 p.m. I did not arrive there till 5.5. The stamp machine was empty, the Post Office closed. There was but one alternative, to take tram to the' G.P.O. and back, a matter of 4d, which is no inconsiderable trifle to a working girl desiring to post a penny letter. You will note, of course, that stationers cannot nowadays., sell stamps.—l am, etc., JANET. [This complaint was referred to the Department, which made inquiries of To Aro Post Office. The cause of the trouble was found to be the offence of some person unknown who threw the machine out of action by endeavouring to insert lead discs instead of pennies. The postal officials concerned with the machine werein no way to blame. Each night stamp machines are inspected and left with a sufficient supply of stamps. The trouble was noticed first at 8 o'clock on Monday night when the incident mentioned presumably occurred.]
