DEATH OF LAPIDARY

The death occurred at Mataugi this week of tlie imported stallion Lapidary, by Black Jester from Lauda, owned by Mr. R. G. Rainger, of Aucklaijd.

Lapidary was foaled in England in 1020, but did not do much racing thero. As a three-year-old he was acquired by Messrs. ■H.-W. Burch and Itainger, and ho won several races in the Dominion before going to the stud. He soon became a success, his progeny winning numerous races. They included Heremia (who ran third in the Great Northern Derby,' won the Douro Cup at Trentham, and was subsequently sold to India), Gay Lap, First Lap, Don't Lap, Grand City, Last Lap, and Intaglio* Lapidary's death was a severe loss to his owner, as he was fully booked up for this season. : :
