SYDNEY TUBE NOTES
GOLDEN WINGS'S GALLOP
(From "Vcdotte.")
SYDNEY, August 21.
Colill'ii Wings was stepped out with a vengeance at Handwiok on Saturday, reeling otf six furlongs in Irain ll^soc, the first hiilf-tnilc hi 4S'/2sec. Possibly this was the answer to Chatham's dasli on Thursday, when he ran half a mile. m ISsec, but took lniin 17sec for the six furlong*. If. .!•!. .Russell is now faced with the problem of finding a rider for Goldeii Wings, but there will be no dearth of applicants. The chestnut certainly galloped much more attractively than Uhauiam, who finished very weakly, but poor-to-medium eliorts have not been uncommon with Chatham before his best racing performances. H. ii. Lorigan had another exasperating second with Frimsel on Saturday m the Flying Handicap, in which Diatomoiis was backed and beaten. Frimsel once again was Blow away but finished like a Hash. She looks a certainty in the first seven-furlong race she contests. Mr. H L. Nathan, the owner, of Lavington, who is raced on lease in Sydney, was an onlooker at Mooreh'eld. Mr. \V. Duncan is still attending the meetings and, like Mr. Nathan, returns to New Zealand by the steamer leaving nest Saturday evening after the Warwick Farm Meeting. Koda Pen is a case of handsome is as handsome does, and there has been no more reliable performer in J. T. Jamieson's stable. Koda Pen had his second run after his throat operation at Moorefield on Saturday in a fair field of milers. He was given a little support and had no difficulty in winning. His success, following that of Deep Respect, was a triumph for Dr \V C. Ring, whose operations have brought two successes in three starts. Deep Respect failed at Moorefield, but he had won a week earlier., A slow get-away settled his chance on Saturday. F Hickey, who does not ride a great number of winners, stepped right into the limelight at Moorefield on Saturday Commencing with Lingo, ho went on in successive races with Near Star and Capetown. All three were at good prices, 60 it was. a lucrative hat trick for those who 6ttick to him.
Custodian and Abdication, two of P. D. Jones's team, were limping after their work at Randwick on Saturday. So far Nightly and The Masquerader have stood up to all that has been required of them and. they hurried over seven furlongs on Saturday in attractiv. style. Very wet weather on Monday saw most of the leading horses taken to Rosebery for Tuesday's enllops Peter Pan Chatham, Kuvera. Waikare, Limarch Pasha, Closing Time. Tavern Knight. Silver Ring. Theo. Regal Sun Care Free Forestry, and Upoko Ariki. were worked over varying;, distances and all did well J. T .Tamieson has lost two useful horsps in Pasha and Mirnmond. wlio have lip^n transferred to G P Nailon's stnWe Ho had clone well with both for Mrs \T Gearin, a locnl owner, and had handled them since their earliest days.
