IMPROVEMENT IN WORK
< (Special From "Hurry On.") NEW PLYMOUTH, August 10,
The New Plymouth track is bearing a busy appearance at; present. There are moro horses in training than there have been for many years past and the trainers are getting their charges ready for the Kgmont-Wnnganui and Taraliaki Hunt Meetings at the end of the month. The tracks continue to be in splendid order and oven the plough has been freely used o£ late.
i Superior continues to please and was responsible ifor a nice half-mile without being extended on Tuesday morning. R. Barlow will probably be trying her out in earnest shortly and her first real test ie> being awaited with interest. Lady Kyra also has not been asked to gallop in real earnest but is doing all that is required of her. She did an easy halt-mile yesterday in company with Red Fox and displayed that same effortless action that, characterised her galloping lust season. Red Fox, who is a three-year-old half-brother to Lavington, has a nice style of galloping and looks likely to turn out a useful sort.
The aristocratically-bred General Quex, who is a half-brother to Father's Voice, is beginning to show improvement. Ho decisively defeated Headmistress over half a mile on Tuesday and carried out his task in good style. He ran the distance in 53sec on a dead track. This was tho first real pace that he has shown since being put into training and he may yet live up to his breeding. Orapai is looking big and muscular and was responsible for a smart half-mile in company with Leo Colossus on Tuesday morning. So far he has shown no signs of the soreness that troubled him last year. Ho should be in-excellent fettle for the hunt gatherings. H. Dulieu has Count Lendroif in steady work again. ' He looks well and is hitting out freely. As he is coming to hand quickly it is quite on the cards that he will- race at the hunt meetings. Amyril is none tho worse for her recent racing; in fact, she appears to be improved. She is standing up to her task 6 in good style. This marc's form has been puzzling of late. She has been responsible for some great gallops ou the, tracks but has consistently failed with the colours up. Her last decent effort was at Te Eapa last November, when she beat all except1 Bou'ghal on the second day of the Waikato Meeting.
