Mauawatu ha.vo entered a. challenge for the New Zealand' Shield, and. the niauagoment committee of tho N.Z.H.A. lias fixed tho date for tho match at August 1.
Hastings recently defeated Wanganui by 3 goals to 2 in a, No'rdon Cup match and retained the trophy. The next challengo match will be against Dannovirke.
In connection with tho Wellington suggestion that players in inter-island matches should bo awarded a suitablo cap or other recognition, tho management committee of tho N.Z.H.A. decided at its last meeting to reply that tho practice had been to' authorise associations to present their representatives with caps when tho match was considered to bo up to tho required standard.
One of Wellington's main Rugby attractions this season will bo tho match with Hawko's Bay, to bo played at Athletic Park next Saturday. Hawko's Cay recently lifted tlio Banfurly Shiold from Canterbury, but the trophy will not be in dispute next Saturday. Wellington's return IKugby match with Tarniiiiki is to bo played al; Wellington on Saturday week.
