CLIFFE SHIELD
In a sense it is regrettable that tho competition for the Cliffe Shield, which seemed likely to bo revived this month by a match between Manawatu and Wellington primary school teams, is to lapso on account of the view held by tho Wellington Headmasters' Association that competition for trophies is undesirable in school sporting activities. This view must be respected, however, and following the" usual practice the'shield will bo returned to the donor. There has been no competition for the shield since 1926, when it was won by Wellington.
