DECISION RESERVED

Decision was reserved by Mr. E. Page,-S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon in tho case in which tho Inspector of Awards (Mr. J. Georgoson) claimed from Frank Flipp, a butcher, of Kilbirnie, a penalty of £10 for an alleged breach of the award by permitting two employees to work earlier than 0 a.m. Flipp was also charged, undcr.tho Shops and Offices Act with employing an assistant for moro than 48 hours in a week, and ho pleaded not guilty. The inspector claimed from Brycnton Bros., butchers, of Riddiford Street, two penalties of £10, alleging in ono instance that they had permitted an employee to work beforo 6 a.m. and in tho other that they had employed workers after midday on a half-holiday. Mr. J. F. B. Stevenson appeared for both tho defendants, and questioned tho validity of tho butchers' award.

Dr. Elliott is too contentious a subject to be discussed hero. However, When Maeaulay's Now Zoalander, in the midst of a vast solitude, stands on a broken arch of London bridge to sketch the ruins of St. Paul's, if that tragic event cv.or pecurs, the great variety of British coinage discovered by the new Imperialists (or, should we say the new Internationalists?) in a future age will be historjcal evidence of the extent and the might of the great British Empire of which its people' were once so proud in their narrow national way!" Dr. Elliott was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address.
