SALE OF POISONS
The Poisons Bill was read, a second time in the House of Representatives last night. In moving the second reading, the Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) said that the present legislation had certain defects ■ from an administrative point of view and.the schedules listing the various poisons were very much out of date. The Bill provided for the more rigid control over the sale of poisons. In drafting the measure they had had the benefit of the English Act which had been passed last year, but modifications had been made in keeping with New Zealand experience. The Bill was read a second time, and at the request of several members the Committee stage • was delayed for a week to allow representations to be made from interested parties.
A fire which broke out in a washhouse at 100 Aro Street, was quickly extinguished by the Fire Brigade yesterday afternoon.
