RACING AT MARTON

RANGITIKEI HUNT ■ CLUB

DAY FOR THE AMATEURS

Although/ the hunters' events have filled quite satisfactorily, the fields for the ! other events at the Kangitikci Hunt Club's j Annual Meeting on the 'Marlon raceI course tomorrow are rather-lighter than j usual. The success of the similar fixture jat Hastings on Saturday is, however, a j pleasing, augury "for tomorrow's meeting, and if. the weather remains fine the club 'should enjoy one of its best fistures-in're- ■ ceut^yeais. The going is almost certain to be soft. The principal event is the Kangitikei ,Hunt Cup, for which there is an acceptance of nine. The quality of the field is indicated by the fact that only, three horses are weighted above the minimum. Consent, .who heads the list, does not seem able to stick at all now, and his effort at Hastings on Saturday did not improve impressions about him. A more likely sort is Avro, a good hurdler in the makings two years ago and Jately with hunting experience. Coonoor will have to do better than- at Hastings, but No Humbug, Currajong, and Hinatore are all possibles. l?or the Ttosebank Hack Huidios iiie licld has been'reduced to only four by the acceptance. Luna Lux, if on hand, will probably be a good favou'iite, but Headland and Silent Bill, who each ran seconds at Dannevirke recently, will dispute the issue with him. . The hunters will have further opportunities in the Eiddiford Steeplechase and Otairi Ladies' Bracelet, both events for gentlemen riders, so that riders rather thiin form may give the better clue to ■probable results. The steeples is for purely maiden hunters. The remainder of the programme consists of a' hack five furlongs, a hack seven furlongs, and a maiden race. In the Closeburn Hack Flying Handicap (7 furlongs), Amyril, Ebcum, Hark Forr'ard, and Raparahara may be the best supported. In- the Springrove Farewell Hack Handicap (5 furlongs) Arena, Lapel, and Lady Ina have recent form, and Hunting Lodge was fairly useful "till - the autumn, when she was let up for a time. The maidens are mostly unknown quantities, and Wyndale looks to have the best chance j-et in her disappointing career to date. .The betting will be conducted under the old 75-25 per cent, single-pool system. The following are among the horses who may claim attention:— 12.0: Riddiford Steeplechase.—No Humbug, War Eagle, and Taneka. -12.40: Qlenmore Maiden Race.—Wyndale ■and Tahurangi. 1.20: Rosebank Hack Hurdles.—Luna Lux'(or Silent Bill). 2.0: Closeburn Hack-Handicap.—Amyril, Hark Forrard, and Ebeum. '2.40: Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeples.— Avro, No Humbug, and ninatore. 3.20: Otairi Ladies' Bracelet.—Black Man. Santoft, and War Eagle (or No Humbug). ' 4.0: Springrove Farewell Hack Handicap. —Arena, Lady Ina, and Lapel. The acceptances are as follows:— RIDDIFOKD STEEPLECHASE, £5 and trophy; 2& 'miles.
