BRITISH BOOKS FOR TOKIO LIBRARY
The library of British books in the Tokio Imperial University, which was destroyed in the disastrous earthquake and fire of September, 1923, has been replaced by British gifts and purchases of between 55,000 and 56,000 volumes, says the London ''Morning Post." , A report presented by the Foreign Secretary states that the appeal for donations of books met with a most generous response, and resulted in the gift to Japan of. about 20,000 volumes. The remaining 35,639 books were purchased from the £25,000 voted by Parliament in July, 1924. They were dispatched in 296 cases, a weight of 41 tons.
