BENSON TROPHY
The Wanganui. Harriers proved to be superior to their guests from Masterton last Saturday when they turned the tables on the Masterton Club, and retained the Benson Trophy. The surprise of the afternoon "was the excellent run made by K. Johnston, who ran home first, and clipped a second off the record for the course, returning the time of 35min 35see for the 6$ miles. He beat his clubmate, C. Weller, easily, and C. Talbot (Mastorton), who won the. first Benson raeo comfortably, was able to secure only third place. Good teaming was shown by the Wanganui men, and the team was home when Masterton had still six to come. ; The Masterton: men put up a good showing, running with the best of their opponents, ,but the hilly country proved to bo too solid for them. The most' improved runner in the Wanganui team, apart from K. Johnston, was probably W. Sherlock, who finished nine places higher than in the Masterton race. Promising runners in the Masterton team wero Quayle, X>. Talbot, and McKay, who kept in. the front line throughout the race. .
