SYDNEY, This Day

The heaviest fog for years descended on Sydney and suburbs before midnight aiid disorganised street and harbour traffic. The Lane Cove ferry Lady Scott ran aground, but was refloated two hours later. Other ferry services ceased running, overburdening the North Shore tram traffic.

The Marama arrived off tho heads about 6.30 this morning, but was unable to enter owing to the fog blanket. Three coastal vessels are held up inside the heads, while ontsido several vessels waited all night long to enter. The South Head signalman for the first timo on record could not see the 1,250,000 candle-power Macquarie Light, 350 yards away. It was tho thickest fog in his experience.
