. T Woodlace, winner o£ the: V.EIXJ.'-Gi^nd A'ational bteeplechase at Remington last Saturday, belongs.to the same family as Gloaming. He is by the Melbourne Cup Backwood (son of Bachelor's Donble) from Straitlaee, hy Almissa (son of Ayrshire) from Royal Favor (an Enghsh mare), by Royal Cherry from Blue Riband, by Prince from Bright Riband, by Macaroni or Stockwell. Bright Riband is a half-sister to Beachy Head, grandam of Axiom, third dam of Solario. Beachy Head is also the grandam of Bill of Portland and the fourth dam of Gloaming. Like many good jumping winners in Melbourne, Wobdlace hails from South Australia. At Easter he ran second in the - Onkaparinga /Great Eastern Steeplechase, and'on June 4he won the Victoria Park Steeplechase, "Pk miles,' at the Adelaide. Cup. Meeting, in 4min 52% sec, a, record for South Australia.
