A DRAWN GAME
!Nada gained a somewhat lucky draw With Lower Hutt on' the number two ground at the; Basis' Reserve on Saturday atternoon, the-, sqore .being 2-goals all. It was a lucky draw because at the beginning, of the second half the Nada goalie cleared a^ishot after apparently running; inside his-own- goal with the ball/but the referee let the.incident pass. The teams wefe:-— " _Nada.—Stone; Dewar, JRonald; Reid, white, Blair; Gray, Cullen, McLeod, Rolf, McDonald. ■■ ■
Lower Hutt.—Body; McSloy, Hazel; Landj Butland, .Stobbs; Batchelor, Jessup, McDougall, Cross, McGrath. Lower Hutt won the toss, but'failed to make full use of the wind and sun which the luck gave them and the whole first half was a rather uninteresting scramble, with Nada showing the beginnings of< combination and Hutt playing a kick and rush game that made openings but found no. one able to finish1 them off. The spearJiead of the Hutt .attack was McGrath, and after three efforts at close range this player found the net just five minutes before the half ended. Beyond that there were few real scoring chances to either side, advantage was not taken of corners, in striking contrast to the manner in which both teams exploited them in the second half, and Nada with only-one-really fine effort begun by Gray, had to watch. McLeod shoot wildly high over the bar. At half-time the score was Lower Hutt 1, Nada 0. The second half had barely begun when McGrath sent down a hot shot that led to- the incident described previously. and Lower Hutt were unlucky not to be ■ given a score. The Nada men came back, and a corner kick by Gray.was headed into the net by. Rolf. Nada had the better of things for a long period, and after half an hour Body stopped a fine shot by Gray but had no time to clear and McLeod raked the ball into the net for Nada to lead. After this Hutt attacked and smart work by_ Jessup;, who had begun the assault, finished with him ■ hitting the upright with a stab at close range. A shot by McGrath paved the way .to the final score, Ronald trying to head the ball and skying it in front of the posts for Stobbs to dash up and find the net. The game ended with the score Lower Hutt 2, Nada 2.
